Monday Memos Week 5 Term 1

Welcome to Week 5, we certainly seem to be moving at a great pace. Here is some info to share:

SAKGKitchen

This week students are completing their filming of kitchen safety videos and so no assistance is required in the kitchen. We will be back cooking again next week and look forward to the company of any volunteers available to help us cook.

Spelling

Looking at the prefixes for the numbers 7, 8 and 9 (heptagon, septagon, nonagon etc)

Keeping Safe Curriculum

Discussed warning signs and physical indicators that people have in response to different experiences. 

Unit of Inquiry

This week as we explore our identities we are looking at experiences and changes in our lives that impact upon who we are or become.



Term 1 Week 5 Whole School Update…

 

Parent / Teacher Conferences:

Learning Conferences

  • These are for parents of all students (other than those who have an ILP)
  • Dates / times are:
    • Tues 7 March 3.45pm to 7.30pm
    • Thurs 9 March 3.45pm to 6pm
    • Weds 15 March 3.45pm to 7.30pm
  • To book a Learning Conference logon onto www.schoolinterviews.com.auand “make a booking” using code 9m7xp
  • Please make your booking by Fri 3/3 as the site will then close so schedules can be printed.  
  • Conferences will be face to face, although there is an option of meeting via Zoom if you would prefer. 

ILP (Individual Learning Plan) Conferences

  • This is the 2nd week (Mon 27 Feb to Fri 3 March) for applicable students (those who have learning plans).  
  • Teachers have been in direct contact with those applicable families asking them to book an ILP Conference.  If you have a booked conference please report to your child’s classroom at your designated time.    

Both types of Conferences are a time for teachers to meet parents (with their children in some year levels) and discuss learning plans for 2023 and answer any questions.   

 

Extravaganza 

  • Saturday March 4pm to 9pm  Click here
  • A Fun Family Event at Immanuel to kick start the year. 
  • BBQ (Sausages, Steak Sandwiches, Cheese burgers),  Dessert Pizzas, Snow Cones, Bouncy Castle, Petting Zoo, Face Painting, Music 
  • Coordinated by P&F, Gawler Lutheran Church and Immanuel School Gawler.
  • If you can volunteer on the day please give your name to the office.    
  • An e-form is on Operoo so you can indicate your attendance and food order.  Please respond by COD Wednesday 1 March for so we can cater accordingly  

 

Emergency Drills 

  • Tomorrow our whole school will be practicing our Emergency Procedures ie Fire Evacuation Drill and Lock In Drill 
  • Teachers will be remind children what to do and how to act in an emergency 
  • Our evacuation point is on the School Oval (Cricket pitch) should any parents or visitors be onsite during this time too.  

 

Hot Weather 

  • Let’s hope the hot weather like last week has now gone for the year.   
  • When it is hot we allow students to bring in their lunchboxes into the airconditioned classrooms for storage to maintain food safety.  
    However we ask parents to assist by placing an ice brick into lunch boxes on hot days too.  
  • Please ensure your child has a filled water bottle every day and apply sunscreen prior to coming to school when necessary

 

2023 Student Residential Address Survey

  • Each year the Australian Government Department of Education requests schools to provide residential address and other information.
  • Under the Australian Education Regulation 2013, the school is required to provide the department with the following information about each student at the school:
    • Names and residential addresses of student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s)
    • Student residential address (excluding student names)
    • Whether the student is a primary or secondary student (education level)

Carers Group

  • The Carers Group first meeting for 2023 will be this Friday 3 March at 9am in the Admin Building.  
  • Thank you to those who have registered their interest to assist as a Class Carer (and other offers) this year.  The meeting will enable everyone to meet and discuss things to do during 2023.     

 

Worship and Praise 

  • Friday 3 March starting at 10.30am led by Mr Hueppauff

Coffee B4 Worship & Praise

·         Gawler Lutheran Church volunteers are offering “Coffee B4 Worship & Praise”from 9.45am in Taikondi

·         We welcome any school parents, kindy parents and friends to join us for this prior to the Worship & Praise 

 

Assembly

·         Last Monday 20 Feb was the first whole school Assembly for 2023.  Our Specialist staff and a number of students shared their learning in Music, PE and LOTE.  Please ​MOV icon click here to watch from home

·         Our phone lines are working again – thank you for your patience if you were trying to contact us last week.

 

Absentees / Running Late / Picking up Early 

  • If your child is absent, please send through the details via the new Operoo Form at this link https://groups.operoo.com/forms/962985/submissions/new.  Alternatively you can telephone the school absent line 85225740 (Option 2) by 9.30am.   Please do not email the class teacher or admin staff (as they maybe absent too).   

 

Rhythm Kids 2023

  • Mondays 9am to 9.30am in Music Room with Mr Hueppauff
  • For all 3-5 year old children and their parents.  Its free! 
  • No need to register, just sign in at the office and go to the Music Room  click here

 

Subway Lunches 

·         Orders due into the office on a Wednesday by 3.30pm for lunch on a Friday. 

·         Please write clearly on the order form the student name and teacher name

·         Please place in a clear zip bag so we can see order form or insert money in an envelope and stick the order form on the front.  

·         Please have correct cash per student as this goes direct to Subway for counting.   

·         Order forms can be obtained in the office, on our website click here and some have been sent home today

 

Parents & Friends (P&F) 

  • Next meeting is Mon 20 March at 7pm.  P&F are coordinatoing the Extravaganza and would appreciate some volunteers to help with set up, pack up and during the event.  

 

Tennis anyone? 

  • Gawler Lutheran Church, Immanuel School Gawler & Zion Preschool are organising a Tennis tournament day for school families and children 
  • Sunday 26 March from 12.30 to 4.30pm at Gawler Tennis Courts, Victoria Terrace Gawler
  • Hot Shots Tennis and other fun games are being organised for the children to enjoy during the day 
  • First doubles game for the adults starts at 1.30pm.  There are 5 courts booked so we can organise a 3 hour tennis tournament during the afternoon 
  • BYO picnic lunch, drinks and snacks can be purchased.

iGOSH

Term 1 Bookings

·         Bookings close 2pm each Friday for the week ahead

·         Any bookings needed after this need to be emailed / text / phone call to Katrina. Please don’t make the bookings for the week of on carebookings as we won’t have them in our booking folder, which we download and print at 2pm each Friday.

Homework

·         We offer Homework time from 3.45 to 4.15pm each afternoon. This is supervised by iGOSH staff. If you would like your child to be reminded and encouraged to do their homework during this time, please record their name and days required on the list at the iGOSH front desk. We will then remind children to do their homework, if they choose not to then we will let you know. Please have the conversations at home if you would like your children to do homework while at iGOSH.

Planning and Programming

·         Our 2023 planning and programming cycle starts this week and we are excited to offer Programmed Activities and a Cooking Class each week. This will be on top of all the other great activities that we have set up at iGOSH. We look forward to sharing Observations again with you via Seesaw.

Boxes

  • If you have any empty boxes that we could use for box construction, we would love to have them. Boxes no bigger than cereal ones please. Drop them off at iGOSH
