Monday Memos Week 5 Term 3

Welcome to a new week and happy science week.

This week we are spending some time looking at science with  a marine focus. This morning, we were able to watch a virtual performance from the Marine Team. They highlighted:

  • Ocean Sustainability
  • Oceans impact on our planet
  • Solutions that generate healthy oceans
  • Embracing innovative ocean technology

Speaking of Science- 
We would like students to do a household audit of all the items at home that use power. They may need a hand with this. The aim of this task is to actively be aware of the amount of appliances/items that we have in a household and how often we use them.

The aim is to have the audit completed by Wednesday so that we can discuss and reflect on our results.


Literacy - 
Students have been encourage to bring in a picture book for a reading task. If they haven't brought one in or keep leaving the book behind, can you remind them to bring it to school. (Some students are using books found at school)

Correct shoes to wear at school

  • There is a significant number of students wearing sneakers instead of the correct leather shoes when in formal uniform.

If you child needs to wear sneakers for any reason then we would appreciate a note to say why.

Footwear Policy

Girls:  Sports Uniform: Supportive sports shoes with white socks  (anklet or ankle height)

          Formal Uniform: Black lace up shoes or girl buckle style with white socks (ankle height)

Boys: Sports Uniform: Supportive Sports shoes with white socks  (anklet or ankle height)

          Formal Uniform: Black lace up shoes or Velcro style with grey socks (ankle height)


 

Open Morning / Open Days  - Principal’s Tour

  • Tuesday 18 August at 9.30am
  • Sunday 30 August at 2.00pm

Student Learning Conferences

  • The parent / teacher / students appointments are this week Tuesday 18 August & Thursday 20 August plus next week Wednesday 26 August - between 3.45pm to 6.30pm.   
    This is your last chance to book a time.  The booking site will close tomorrow at 12 noon (Tuesday     18/8) so that schedules can be finalised for class teachers.

Cup Cakes for students

  • This Thursday 20 August the Carers group will be baking and sending home the cupcakes to students who had ordered these back in term 1.

  • This week’s focus is on “Kindness and supporting others”

Heroclix Stay back night

  • Friday 21 August 4pm to 6.30pm 
  • For those students who have registered with Mr Jones

Pancake Breakfast – is on again for students and parents next week

  • Tuesday 25 August from 8am till 8.45am in the senior unit courtyard

  • Parents are reminded to social distance as per covid regulations

School Photo Day  Wednesday 26 August

  • Please return photo order envelopes by Friday 21 August.   These must be returned even if you are not placing an order.
  • Sibling group photo envelopes are available from the office
  • Students (in Yr 2-6) need to wear their full formal uniform (+ green jumper) whilst F-1 students will wear sports uniform (+ rugby jumper). 

Casual Day to support Daffodil Day - Friday 28 August

  • Students can wear casual clothes with a splash of yellow (T-shirt, socks, ribbons, etc) and bring a gold coin donation

Year 4’s are fundraising for sports equipment by:

  • Guess the Jelly Bean Jar in the office 50c / guess
  • An Afternoon Stall on Friday 28 August selling biscuits, fruit kebabs, cake and brownies – all at 50 cents each

Disco Night

  • Friday 28 August.  F,1,2,3’s starts 6.00 -7.15pm / Yr 4,5,6 starts 7.30-8.45pm.  Flyer with registration section will be sent home this week.  Due to Covid regulations we cannot allow parents to gather and stay onsite during the Disco (other than those who are volunteering).   

School Concert (F-3’s)
Due to COVID 19 restrictions the concert will be performed over 3 days which enables a larger audience to view the performances over the week

  • Foundation Concert on Tuesday 1 September
  • Year 1 Concert on Wednesday 2 September
  • Year 2 and 3 Concert on Thursday 3 September
    Each concert will have a MATINEE performance commencing at 2.30pm and an EVENING performance commencing at 6.30pm

Friday 4 September is a Student Free Day

  • Staff will be onsite undertaking some professional development
  • iGOSH will be open for those families who need care.  The cost of the day is $60.  Please book for this day now via the online booking system (bookings close at 2pm on Friday 28 August).

iGOSH Vacation Care Program

  • We hope you enjoy reading the observations iGOSH staff write about your child. We would now like to incorporate group observations as well, which require consent for your child’s name and photo to be used in a group situation and on other children’s observations forms. There is more information and a checklist on the front desk at iGOSH. Please read and sign for your child.

Lost Jumpers

  • There are so many rugby jumpers in the office lost property box with no name.  Please remember to clearly name your child’s clothing items.

Graduation is a week and a half away, so I pose this question to you… what type of graduation parent do you think you’ll be this year? Monday Memos Week 9 Term 4

Here we are, a couple days left. It would be interesting to know how all the students are feeling. I do know that some can’t wait to move on and some don’t want to leave. As always, many are probably feeling a little bit from column A and column B.  Reports Reports to go out tomorrow.  Pizza Lunch Tomorrow Tomorrow, as a gift to the students, Tayla and I have organised a pizza lunch for students. The evening will commence with the graduation ceremony and will lead into an evening of enjoying each other’s company one last time as a group.  So that things run smoothly, we ask that you arrive on time. Monday Memos Week 7 Term 4

Creeping closer and closer to the end of the year, but the work doesn’t stop…  Academics   The big ticket item in class right now is responding to the Ted Hughes novel The Iron Man. The Playberry literacy routines will continue through to the end of the year and in maths we are currently playing around with algebra and problem solving.  End of Year Guff As a part of the student graduation, we are after a photo of each child from when they commenced school (Foundation). If your child commenced at a different school, we would love it if you could email us a digital copy so we can add it to the presentation.  For the graduation evening, it is expected that students are wearing formal summer uniform.
