Monday Memos Week 7 Term 2

By the end of this week, we will have moved into the school house on East Terrace. Should be a bit of fun operating from up there and a unique experience for the students. Here’s some information from around the grounds this week...

Mrs Eckermann:

Mrs Eckermann is looking to return to light duties on Wednesday and Thursday this week. If you get a chance to say ‘g’day’ I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.

Spelling:

Double letters again this week with words coming from list 14.

Government Game assignment:

Students are currently putting all their new found Civics and Citizenship knowledge into producing a game. This is due Wednesday of Week 8 (next week). This task is on Seesaw so students can share easily with you what the task is.

SAKG Food Stalls

Wednesday evening in Week 9 will be a showcase of Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden as well as the students LOTE studies so far this year. Each student will be allowed two invites for this evening with more detail and information to be released to parents shortly.

What else is on in Term 2

Building Project

  • As many of you will know, our new building project (referred to as the CU2 building) is coming along, but unfortunately it is quite a bit behind schedule. We had hoped to have it finished and be moved in by the end of this term but that is not going to happen.  (The new building will house our Year 5s and Year 6s, the library and staff room.)
  • A complication to this is that we have to start the development of the rooms on the northern side of Taikondi (current Year 2 & 3 rooms) by the start of the mid-year break.  If we don’t, the contracts will need to go out to be re-tendered and we also put in jeopardy a substantial BGA grant we received to support this project. (See the Newsletter for a map)
  • So, we are in the position that we will need to do some interim changes until the CU2 building is completed. Following a lot of planning, thought and discussion, over the coming weeks the following changes will be made…
    • Year 6’s will relocate to the East Terrace house starting this week Mon 7/6, (until the CU2 building  is ready),
    • Year 2’s will relocate to the Senior Unit at the end of this week Fri 11/6, (until the Taikondi refurbishment is finished, which we anticipate will be late in term 4)
    • Foundation Blasche will relocate to the former photocopier room at the end of this week Fri 11/6, which is Room 1 next to Year 3 M/S (until the CU2 building is complete)
    • Year 3 Rollings / Tilbrook will relocate to the Foundation Blasche Room next week Tues 15/6, (until the CU2 building is complete and then they will move into the current Year 5 rooms until the end of the year)
  • We are also challenged during this transition time by a lack of storage and so you will also see things housed at a variety of places for the interim.
  • Certainly, we would prefer not to have to make these ‘double moves’ but we’re in the position that we have no other real choice.
  • Certainly, I commend our staff for their willingness to work through these short-term disruptions for the long term benefits that both the CU2 and Heritage Refurbishment projects will afford us.

Traffic – School Lane

  • In the very near future we will have the capability of driving through the East Terrace property from the School Lane. Gates have been installed through the yard and if those gates are open and the pathway is clear, please feel free to keep on going through the house yard and onto East Terrace.
  • As with all traffic through and around the school, please drive really carefully and be vigilant in watching for children passing through car parks etc.
