Senior Unit Camp

This week was originally planned as a Canberra Camp week. Unfortunately due to the current pandemic and associated factors, we were unable to provide this experience. The good news at the moment is that we are working towards an Aquatics Camp for Term 4 over on the Yorke Peninsula. Stay tuned for more details on that during the second half of the year.

UOI - Who We Are

We are finishing off the main part of our identity unit with some short term goal setting that will benefit a your child’s wellbeing. Our learning engagement is about getting them thinking and planning to achieve a goal. We hope that some students carry out their plans and succeed. Might be something you wish to ask your child about.

Welcome to Harmony Day - 21 March  

  • The continuing message of Harmony Day is 'Everybody Belongs' and its annual observance aims to encourage inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural background, and celebrate core Australian values.
  • It was fantastic to see students and staff dress with a splash of orange.  Students enjoyed anorange fruit box for recess, thanks P&F for organising.   Money donated today will go to the Australian Lutheran World Service who are raising money for the Ukraine crisis. 

 

Student Learning Conferences

  • Thank you to those families who have already had a Learning Conference last Thursday night (17/3) or who have booked a Conference time for today Monday 21/3 or Wednesday 23/3.
  • The booking site for Learning Conferences has now closed.  If you missed out on making a booking please contact your classroom teacher to organise a day / time direct.

Photo Shoot

  • On Wednesday 30 March Pete the photographer will be onsite to take some photos of our school facilities and students.  We will then use these images to update our advertising on our website and in our prospectus.  We will follow our data base of student photo consent (we have a few listed who cannot).  However if you do not consent for this occasion, please email jennyj@ilsg.sa.edu.au

 

Performance Appraisal for Professional Development:

A Process for Principals of Lutheran Schools

  • Appraisal is an important part of quality management as it allows strengths to be affirmed and areas of concern to be addressed. All Lutheran School Principals undertake such reviews every three years. The school board, in conjunction with Daryl, has agreed that a performance appraisal of Daryl will be conducted in the coming weeks.
  • The survey will be administered by the Lutheran Education SA/NT/WA.  Respondents to the appraisal will be chosen from various groups at random, so some members of the school community will be asked to complete a survey. The survey will be an on-line survey, forwarded by email, and the results will be anonymous.  Your support of this process will be greatly appreciated as it will guide plans for the professional development for our Principal.

New Communication System called Operoo

  • Last Wednesday afternoon we launched our new Operoo Communication system to all Parents/ Caregivers at Immanuel.  
  • You should have received an email direct from Operoo with a Username and Password to log in and create your account for your child.
  • If you have any issues setting up your account, please go direct to the Operoo Websitewww.operoo.com and use the  “Live Chat” feature where a Customer Service Support person can guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

iGOSH

  • Bookings close 2pm each Friday and are printed for the week ahead.   Any bookings made after this time need to be telephoned, texted or emailed to Katrina.  These bookings are charged at the casual rate
  • We have noticed some children arriving to school soon after 8am.  Please be reminded that students who arrive at school before 8.30am need to attend iGOSH, so please book accordingly

Hats

  • Hats are compulsory when playing outside during iGOSH this term.

Vacation Care

  • The April Vacation Care Program Program is out and bookings are open online atwww.carebookings.com.au   Bookings will close Monday 4 April at 10am. 
  • Confirmation and Consent forms will go home Tuesday 5 April.  
  • Accounts need to be below $500 and last Vac Care paid to be eligible to attend.
  • We have a few excursions planned, however we are running with a “scaled down” program as we just aren’t sure about restrictions and changes that may happen before the holiday period.

Observations

  • We hope you are enjoying reading your child’s observations on Seesaw.  Our planning cycle has begun and we love sharing what and how your child is involved in the activities we plan at iGOSH.

  • The Carers Group help support our families with cards and meals (in good times and bad).

Premier’s Reading Challenge

  • The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is on again this year.  To complete the challenge, students must read 8 books from the PRC booklist and 4 personal choice books.  The challenge concludes on 9 September 2022.  Eligible books include e-books, audio books, class/shared reading, prescribed books for school, non-fiction books, books read as research for assignments or books in another language.  Students have a PRC student reading record to fill in books they have read, which is kept at school.  Students in Years F-3 are completing the challenge as a class.

Covid Reminders

  • If your child contracts Covid 19 you MUST notify the school as soon as you can. If your child is a close contact please notify us too. 
  • It is Ok to notify us via email, but for positive cases we will need to ring parents to gather some specific detail we need to make a school notification report to SA Health.   
  • The key message though is to please let us know as soon as possible so we can pass the information on to other families.
  • Refer to https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/  for symptom checker and other info on isolation etc. 
  • There are new rules for the length of isolation time for positive cases.  You must isolate for 7 days after you had your positive COVID-19 PCR test taken or tested positive using a rapid antigen test. You can only leave isolation after 7 days if you do not have acute symptoms, including a sore throat, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath.   Please click here to read the updates.   
  • If a person has had Covid, SA Health are now saying that anyone who has been positive are considered unable to be reinfected (and therefore don’t need to isolate/quarantine etc) for 8 weeks. (It use to be four weeks.)
  • Families are reminded to log all cases with SA Health as they will issue you with a document that says it is OK to re-enter school etc.
  • School based extracurricular activities, if they are outside, are now deemed acceptable. Inside ones too where social distancing and measures can be put in place to minimise transmission.
  • QR code check ins are no longer necessary here at school.

 

Learning at Home

  • We currently have a number of families who are isolating and students who are unable to attend school.  If your child is in this position ongoing Learning engagements are regularly being posted on See Saw and these are engagements that students on site are doing as well.
  • Additionally,  please see the announcements page on your class Seesaw account for instructions about accessing new home learning engagements, which include daily literacy and numeracy video lessons, from the Department for Education. We believe these lessons from the DfE are of very high quality and we commend them to you.
  • Please note that if you have a child at home there is no obligation for them to attend to these learning engagements  - they are simply there to support students during these times.
  • Please contact the school if we can support you in any way while students are off site. We have a number of staff who are currently ‘off site’ as well and so it could be that a teacher other than your child’s normal teacher is the one offering that support. 

 

Uniform Shop

·         New Uniform Items:  please come see the office staff for purchases.  Please start thinking about what winter items you may need. 

·         Second Hand Uniform shop is now open on Mondays and Tuesdays 3:10pm -3:40pm

·         Old Logo’d Uniform:  at the end of this term, we will stop selling “Old Logo’d style Uniform”  (eg sports tops, rugby jumpers, jumpers) in our Second Hand Uniform Stall.  We have had our new Logo Uniform for 5 years now so it’s time to refresh.

Graduation is a week and a half away, so I pose this question to you… what type of graduation parent do you think you’ll be this year? Monday Memos Week 9 Term 4

Here we are, a couple days left. It would be interesting to know how all the students are feeling. I do know that some can’t wait to move on and some don’t want to leave. As always, many are probably feeling a little bit from column A and column B.  Reports Reports to go out tomorrow.  Pizza Lunch Tomorrow Tomorrow, as a gift to the students, Tayla and I have organised a pizza lunch for students. Monday Memos Week 7 Term 4

Creeping closer and closer to the end of the year, but the work doesn’t stop…  Academics   The big ticket item in class right now is responding to the Ted Hughes novel The Iron Man. The Playberry literacy routines will continue through to the end of the year and in maths we are currently playing around with algebra and problem solving.  End of Year Guff As a part of the student graduation, we are after a photo of each child from when they commenced school (Foundation). If your child commenced at a different school, we would love it if you could email us a digital copy so we can add it to the presentation.  For the graduation evening, it is expected that students are wearing formal summer uniform.
